10 Simple Steps to Self-Motivation and More Sales, and Highly Recommended books for Self-Improvement
Every day of your life you are selling yourself, nothing happens until you’re successful at doing that. Whether you like it or not we’re all in the selling business. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an attorney or an accountant, a manager or a politician, an engineer or a doctor. Self-Motivation and Self-Improvement are the magical fruits that everybody should be feeding on. With out these fruits, our mindset goes dead. We all invest a great accord of our time attempting to persuade people to buy our product or service, with the help of these fruits we are bound to succeed. Accept our proposals or merely accept what we say.
Before you get exceptional at persuading or influencing other people – you need to be exceptional at self-motivation and selling yourself.
What Does It Mean To Self Improve?
Self-Improvement has become dominant. I say this because in the last few years, ever since I have been writing articles and submitting them to article sites, I’ve realized that the category of self-motivation or self-improvement has been showing up lately when it was never there before. To me, this is amazing.
But what does it mean to Self Improve? What are we improving when we self improve? And what self are we improving?
We each have two selves our damaged self and our focus Self. Our focus Self is our true self, our natural soul-self our essence. Our focus Self is our affection, our gladness, our gifts and talents, our strength to love, our creativity. We come into this life as our focus Self, and when this Self is loved and valued by our parents or anyone, we continue to naturally grow our God-given gifts and talents and manifest the fullness of our beings. This Focus Self wants to develop by learning the skills necessary to fully express itself.
But when this Focus Self is not seen and cherished in the way we needed, we create a different self, a self we hope will have authority over getting the love we need and dodging the pain we can’t handle a self to help us feel safe and comfortable. This is our false self, our damaged self, our ego-self. This self is filled with the negative beliefs that we consumed as we were growing up beliefs that end up limiting our true, focus Self. This self doesn’t need self-improvement it needs healing.
The term self-improvement can sometimes be a bit misleading because we do not want to improve our damaged or wounded self. We don’t want to improve on the ways we tell lies, mislead, manipulate, and dodge in our attempts to have control over getting love and avoiding pain. We don’t want to improve on our anger, our compliance, our withdrawal and our resistance rather we want to heal it. Healing and improving is not the same thing.

When it comes to skills we can certainly self-improve. We can improve in cooking, singing, writing, reading, art. We can improve our wellbeing and health by improving our diet and exercise program. We can better the knowledge we need to be more successful regarding work and money. We might be able to better our relationships by learning new communication skills. But what if achieving new knowledge and skills does not boost our health, or our ability to earn money or our relationships? And what if acquiring new skills doesn’t bring us more happiness and inner peace? It may mean that we want to heal the hidden fears and false beliefs that cause us to be afraid, unhappy, stressed, guilty, ashamed, withdrawn, angry, blaming, or sad.
Self-Improvement Sometimes means just practising a skill, and other times it means that we need to engage in a deep healing process. For example, a lot of people are trying to better their health by losing weight and exercising. But if their addiction to food keeps covering over unhealed pain, they might not be able to change their diet. For them to eventually improve, they might need to open to a healing process.
If you are trying to self improve but find yourself cemented or stuck and unable to advance or find that you have no happiness or inner peace, you might want to open to the possibility that unhealed pain and beliefs are preventing your growth and causing your pain. It is easy to improve yourself when nothing is impeding the way. But if you have old false beliefs about your competence and worth, these beliefs may be preventing your ability to take loving action on your behalf. All your hard work to self-improve will not bring you the satisfaction you are seeking if you have beliefs that are keeping you limited in fully expressing your true, focus Self. If you are stuck, then you need to explore a healing process, such as the Inner Bonding process we teach, that will move you out of the fears and beliefs that limit you. Healing these fears and limiting beliefs will open the door to improving your life in all ways!
Important steps to self-motivation
You must believe in the product
Selling yourself is pretty much like selling anything. Firstly, you need to trust in what you’re selling. That means believing in “you.” Lots of positive self-talk and the right attitude is what you need.
The very first thing people notice about you is your attitude. So, if you’re like the majority then you’ll suffer from lack of confidence from time to time. It all depends on how you talk to yourself. The majority of people are more likely to talk to themselves negatively than positively and this can be what holds them back in life.
It isn’t just about a positive attitude; it’s about the right attitude which boils down to the quality of your thinking.
Successful people have a positive and optimistic way of looking at themselves and their work. They have an attitude of patience, confident, positive self-expectation. They feel smart regarding themselves and believe that everything they are doing will lead to their inevitable success.
If you’re in a sales job or a business owner or a manager then you need to continually work on your attitude. The little voice within you is that you need to listen to. Is it saying you’re in control, go for it and fearlessly, or is it holding you back? If what you are hearing is, “I can’t do this or that” or “They won’t want to buy at the moment” or “We’re too expensive” then you’d better change what you say or change your job.
Start to believe in yourself and don’t let things that are out with your control affect your attitude. With Self-Improve you are the focus and ready to walk your way to the top rather than criticizing, condemning and complaining.
The packaging must grab attention
For you to influence the customer’s decision to buy, the product must be well packaged and presented like any other product we buy.
Everything about you has to look good and you must dress properly for the occasion. Please never you keep this in mind; just because your customer dresses casually, that they expect you to dress the same way. Not that the style and colour of the clothes you wear, your shoes, briefcase, watch, spectacles, the pen you use, all make a statement about you.
Smile
No use to be over-excited, you don’t need a big cheesy grin, just a pleasant open face that doesn’t frighten people away.
Use names
Use the customer’s name as soon as you can but don’t overdo it. Be careful of using first names initially since business nowadays is very formal. Make sure your client or prospect is aware of yours and remembers it. You can do the old repeat trick.
Watch the other person
What does their body language tell you? Are they complacent with you or are they a bit afraid? Are they attentive with what you are saying or are their eyes darting around the room? If they’re not complacent and not attentive with what you are saying, then there’s no point telling them something important about your business. It is more preferable to make some small talk and more importantly get them to talk about themselves.
It’s perfect to go on the assumption that in the first few minutes of meeting someone new, they won’t consume much of what you say. They’re too busy studying or evaluating all the visual data they’re taking in.
Listen and look like you’re listening.
Majority of people, especially men, listen but don’t show that they are listening. The other person can only go on what they see, not what’s going on inside your head. If a blank expression is seen, then they’ll assume you’re “out to lunch.”
The trick is to try and do all the active listening things like nodding your head, the occasional “UH-HUH” and the occasional question.
Be interested.
If you want to be FASCINATING then have an INTEREST. This is the most exciting thing you can do to be outstanding at selling yourself. Most people are very concerned about their self-image. If they feel that you value them, that you acknowledge that they’re significant and worth listening to, then you effectively raise their self-image. If you can help people to like themselves then there’ll LOVE you.
Never get caught in the trap of trying to flatter someone or people, because a majority of people will see it right through and won’t fall for it. All you need to do is show some genuine interest in the customer or prospect and their business and they’ll be much more open-minded to what you say.
Talk positively.
When it comes to self-motivation, you have to let go of negative talks. Never say, “Isn’t it a tough day” or “Business is really tough these days” or anything else that pulls the conversation down. Say things like (and please no lies telling), “The design of this office is simply amazing” or “I’ve heard some good reports about your new product.”
Mirror the other person.
This doesn’t mean you should behave exactly like the other person; it just means you speaking and behaving in a manner that is related or similar to the customer. For example, if your customer speaks slowly or quietly, then you speak slowly or quietly. Bear in mind that people like people who are like themselves.
Warm and friendly.
When it comes to improving your self-esteem, you have to look and sound warm and friendly to get the attention of your prospects or customers. This is not about playing all nicey-nicey. Just put on a pleasant face or a warm tone over the telephone. If you look or sound stressed or combative then don’t be surprised if the other person gets defensive and less than willing to co-operate. So, bear it in mind that before we can get to the process of selling or marketing our products, our services or our ideas then we need to be as sure and certain that the customer or prospect has bought us and that we have their full attention.
